Mary was born in Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico, where she continues to make her home. Her grandfather and dad were familiar with jewelry making and Mary started to work in shell with her mother, before turning twenty. About 35 years ago she added silver to her mosaic work, which continues today.
Her husband, Sedelio, learned tufa casting from Mary’s father and the couple taught several of their six sons various jewelry making techniques. Now, grandchildren are winning awards and carrying on the tradition.
Mary’s style of mosaic inlay is a revival of the art pueblo people created many years ago, with a newer addition of silverwork.
