Lena is a third generation Zuni carver. She began by helping her grandfather Teddy Weahkee, complete the shell offerings on his pieces. She also helped her late mother, Edna Leki. Edna was the first Zuni woman to support herself by carving. By the early 70’s Lena and her late husband, Rignie, were caring for their family through the sales of their carvings. Their son and daughter continue the carving tradition into the fourth generation.

A characteristic of Lena’s work is the vast array of materials she uses. In addition to rocks, minerals, and assorted shell, Lena carves glass.
