Gene and Martha Jackson

Gene and Martha were both born into Navajo families living in Arizona during the 1930's. Gene's father was a silversmith, working in old traditional styles. Gene learned his skills from carefully observing his father and later refined his abilities by attending a class at the Navajo Community College. The well known Navajo silversmith Kenneth Begay, was his teacher, Some of his influence can be seen in Gene's pieces.

Martha enjoyed many aspects of ranching and the outdoors. She loved to ride as she was growing up and attended local rodeos. Early in their marriage, Martha worked as a Harvey Girl at the Grand Canyon. She used that experience to learn and become fluent in English.
